It has been a great honor to be in a position to lead a great team of professionals in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. As the first freestanding chair of critical care medicine, I understand the responsibilities and the expectations that this position holds for everyone. I look forward to working with my staff and everyone to blaze a new path of tradition in critical care medicine in Japan.
