Development and feasibility study of a family empowerment program for caregivers who are rearing the children with disabilities at home., 2018.04 - 2022.03
Summary: Based on the Family Empowerment Model identified in previous research projects, the program focused on approaches to "utilization of social resources," "sense of burden of caregiving," and multiple factors related to these factors, and was designed to enable participants to coordinate care focusing on "family (within)," "service system," and "community. The program incorporated exercises and role-plays, and involved several patient family associations as collaborators in the development of the program, which allowed for a variety of opinions to be expressed from the perspective of the patients involved.
After conducting a pre-test, we divided the patients into an intervention group and a wait-list-control group based on the CCT design, and verified the effectiveness of the Family Empowerment Program.

Qualifty of family life and its improvement: using data from multiple family members, 2016.04 - 2020.03
Summary: Family nursing aims to care the family as a system, with working on family relationships and improving the health and function of each family member including the person with a disease or disability. However, few studies in family nursing have evaluated quality of family lie as an outcome from the perspective of the whole family. This study obtained basic data on the family QOL and family function from the perspective of multiple family members in order to build further evidence of family nursing. We also developed an electronic survey system to obtain it and verified its practicality.

Development of Family Intervention Program Focusing the Relationship between children with cancer or brain tumors and their siblings, 2016.04 - 2019.03
Summary: Families of children diagnosed with childhood cancer and brain tumors are exposed to traumatic experiences and are severely psychologically affected (eg PTSD, post traumatic growth, etc.). Nurses are required to support the whole family, including their parents and siblings, to cope with stress. In addition, nurses are required to coordinate not only nurses but the entire medical team so that the medical team can support the family as a whole. This study aimed to develop a family support program focusing on the relationship between children with cancer or brain tumors and their siblings.

A Study on Clinical Application of "The Guidelines" and Development of Care Model Aiming at Standardization of Nursing Care for Children with Cancer, 2014.04 - 2019.03
Summary: The purpose of this research is to verify the clinical use of "Childhood cancer nursing care guidelines" developed in the previous research and to develop a care model, aiming at standardization of childhood cancer nursing.
We conducted a national survey to evaluate guidelines for nurses involved in pediatric cancer nursing. The nurses' perceptions of the importance of the 46 items of care described in the guidelines was high, and most items were supported. The nurses' perceptions of the degree of care implementation differed depending on the item, and were considered to indicate difficulties in care and problems. Based on these results, we revised the guidelines and described the care model in line with the current issues of childhood cancer nursing.

Identification and transferability of specific family nursing in end of life care, 2014.04 - 2018.03
Summary: Throughout the 6-session Seminar Series(providing knowledge or information regarding being with a dying person, sharing a case of dying persons, and net-working)for citizens and medical/care workers, approximately a half of respondents who completed the questionnaire after the seminars have reported the changes of their views of nursing care, and life and death. As an example of diversity of citizens, we asked where they hope to stay when they become in need of care in the future for men with HIV positive, who were over 40 years old and on treatment. As a result, over a half preferred to stay their homes if they partially need care, but if they totally need care, over a half preferred to stay at nursing homes. We have held 20 group supervision sessions of family nursing practices during the past 4 years and analyzed the transcripts. And then, we have found useful hints for nursing practices, although the many of cases were not [good practice].

How to support compiled transition childhood survivors and their families have experienced, 2014.04 - 2017.03
Summary: We have conducted and reported the following four research regarding "transition" and "nursing science": 1) We have conducted interviews for childhood cancer patients and their families that had experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake every six months in order to clarify their recovery transition from the trauma; 2) We have developed three programs to enhance the developmental transition among children with chronic illness and have been evaluating those in corporation with practitioners ; 3) We have developed and evaluated an educational program for a general child population to increase the knowledge regarding childhood cancer (supportive system for school re-entry transition); 4) We have clarified the HRQOL among patients with childhood cancer and breast cancer and their parents in collaboration with JCCG (transition from on-treatment to off-treatment).
